Therapy for Self-Esteem in Weston

Hello!

My name is Diana Garcia, and I specialize in therapy for self-esteem in Weston, FL.

  • Constantly doubt yourself and your abilities. You hear some version of “you don’t know what you’re doing, or you don’t have what it takes” on repeat.
  • Feel helpless every time that  “not good enough” story gets loud.
  • Are staying small in life because you’re afraid to put yourself out there and are scared of falling flat on your face.
  • Don’t trust yourself to speak up, make scary decisions, and show up as your unique self.
  • Feel like a doormat, including that rude waiter who brought you the wrong order, but you just let it go for the millionth time.

I get it; it feels so crushing, and I’m here to help!

I help people tap into their unknown strength and show up courageously to their lives. Beyonce got nothing on you!

My Approach to Counseling for Self-Esteem in Weston

We also struggle with feelings of less than, doubting our worthiness, and having an inner critic. It’s part of this condition called being a human being (there’s no cure for it, I’ve checked). But seriously, being a human means that at some point, you will have negative thoughts about yourself, will engage in unhelpful comparison, and will feel defeated by these thoughts.

Okay, stick with me here; your mind doesn’t have a convenient big red delete button. You can do things to hit abort on uncomfortable thoughts and associated feelings temporarily. Like binging all seasons of This is Us ( a good ugly cry always helps), drinking one too many Moscow Mules, or swiping away on Tinder.

When you’ve watched the last episode, you sipped the last drops of your Mule, and your phone is dead; the “not good enough” voices start up again. These tactics didn’t delete these thoughts in the long run.

Maybe you’re thinking, okay, fine, I’ll do all the “healthy coping mechanisms,” So instead of turning to TV, drinks, and hookups, you repeat positive affirmations, rewatch that manifesting video on YouTube, and listen to the latest Calm meditation. But wait, when you’re in bed and everything is powered down, you hear that nagging voice “something’s crucially wrong with you” again. Wtf?!

Again, you’re not alone, and you’re not a failure if you’ve been struggling with this painful internal bully. Over time, you’ve tried everything to get rid of these negative self-stories, but they are still part of your existence. My approach to self-esteem therapy in Weston is not to waste more of your time trying to get rid of these thoughts. Instead, my focus will be to utilize tools to help you change your relationship with these stories and feelings.

The more you can drop the struggle with these parts of yourself and shift your attention and energy, the more you can take control back of your life. Imagine being able to have all these negative thoughts and feelings AND make the bold moves in your life. You will be driving the bus of life rather than letting all these rowdy passengers take control of the steering wheel.

FAQ for Self-Esteem Therapy in Weston

A simple definition of self-esteem is the thoughts you have yourself. It’s a self-evaluation of yourself and generally how you see yourself.

In our culture, it’s common to hear self-esteem distinguished into two broad categories:

  • High Self-Esteem: is generally having positive thoughts about yourself.
  • Low Self-Esteem: inversely, you generally have negative thoughts about yourself.

I don’t mainly take this rigid black or white perspective. Instead of focusing on having high self-esteem (as it is typically encouraged in mainstream media), the goal is to focus on accepting all parts of yourself, including positive and negative thoughts about yourself.

Some common signs of low self-esteem are:

  • Having consistent negative thoughts about yourself that influence your behaviors
  • Being your own worst critic and believing everything your inner critic says.
  • Struggling to accept/acknowledge any of your positive traits or achievements
  • Feeling insecure about your relationships which can lead you to cling or disengage from relationships to protect yourself.
  • Not pursuing/accepting opportunities due to lack of confidence.
  • Settling in your life due to believing that’s the best you can do.

I’m biased, but yes, I believe therapy can help you better understand your relationship with your self-esteem. You can explore some of the factors contributing to your difficulties with self-esteem. More importantly, therapy can help you make changes based on what’s important to you rather than what your low self-esteem self-stories keep saying.lock.

I tend to incorporate a combination of tools from different therapies to help you change your relationship with your negative self-stories. I mainly draw upon Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help increase overall acceptance, self-compassion and changing behaviors in your life based on your values. Additionally, I will use some tools from my training as a Certified Daring Way Facilitator based on Brené Brown’s work.
